We are rattling through the Premier League previews and today myself and football expert Bogoljub Karic bring you a break down of Manchester City and how they will fare in the upcoming Premier League season. Unless you have been sleeping under a rock then you will know that the Citizens have managed to win back-to-back Premier League titles and are looking to win a third in a row, the first time since Manchester United did it in the early 00’s. Can City do it again? Let’s take a look.
Transfers
Manchester City are yet to invest any money but given their track record it is surely only a matter of time before they go fishing in the transfer market to try and bolster this insane squad even more. City do have some positions to fill of course, both Vincent Kompany and David Silva have left the club by mutual consent and defensive midfielder Fernandinho is soon to be 35 years old. City have been linked with many players but are yet to make any solid bids, they have to replace these 3 players if they are to stand a chance of success.
Youth
Two players who City can certainly count on this year is Phil Foden and Oleksander Zinchenko, two starlets who featured last season but didn’t get too many minutes under their belts. This year looks like it will be the real breakout season for the pair and Manchester City fans should be excited at this prospect. If both players hit the ground running then they will provide a huge boost to this already great City side.
Premier League
We have made the bold prediction that Liverpool will win this year’s Premier League title, with Manchester City finishing in 2nd position. In fact we expect the title to go much in the same way as it did last year, with Liverpool and City poles ahead of the rest. The only reason why we expect Liverpool to pip the Citizens to the title this year is because of the experience which is leaving that City changing room, vital voices who no doubt helped push City to the next level when the chips were down, those are hard positions to replace.
Cups
Manchester City will once again look to dominate both cup competitions but their main focus will of course be centered on the Champions League. Spurs were the victors in the Quarter Finals of the Champions League last year and City will know that anything but a final appearance will be a disappointment. Regardless of what Guardiola has done on a domestic level he knows that it is the Champions League which is mots sought after by City, their owners and fans, and another poor campaign just won’t be accepted.
Our prediction for City this year is that they finish 2nd in the league, lift both domestic cups and finish as runners-up in the Champions League.
